When should you call 112?The emergency number 112 is for when you need urgent help, for instance when your life is in immediate danger, or if someone is seriously injured and needs prompt medical attention, or if you have witnessed a serious crime like assault, murder, robbery or a break-in.
Can you call 112 for fire?You can also call 112 from any mobile phone in South Africa to be routed through to your network provider's emergency call center. The operator then puts you through to the relevant emergency service (e.g., police, ambulance, fire, traffic police, sea rescue).
What happens when you call 112 in the Netherlands?This toll-free emergency number can be used in all EU member states. The operator who answers will immediately alert the appropriate emergency service: the fire brigade, police or ambulance service.
What happens if you dial 112 by mistake?Automated response
“Even if the button is pressed by mistake, the call is connected, but only to the automated technology which asks the caller to press 8 if he/she wants to speak to an operator,” he said.
