Customer ReviewsThule Top Deck Kayak Rack Low profile, easy to install, hold the kayak wellI have Thule aeroblade racks and was looking for a kayak rack that hauled the kayak flat rather than on its side. These were compatible but clamp on and do not use the track mounting. I load my kayak from the side and roll over these and they flex enough not to break. The friction straps these come with are quality. Along with the grip on the pads my kayak is secure enough I don't use the front and back lines for my typical destinations although would for a longer trip. View more reviews... Posted By Nathan E (Hazelwood, MO) / August 27, 2018 2018 Jeep Cherokee Thule DockGlide Kayak Rack Thule Dock Glide Kayak RackBought the Dock Glide looking for an easier load. Had used typical j racks previously and found it extremely awkward for me to load from the side and having to use a step stool to "get it up" to the rack, even placing handles on each end of the cockpit. Installed loaded and went on my trip. Extremely easy to load from the rear, secures nicely with straps and bow/ stern lines. As with all Thule directions, yah gotta think about it for a sec but a breeze to put together. Happy so far. View more reviews... Posted By Holly H (VERPLANCK, NY) / June 20, 2017 2015 Jeep Cherokee View MoreView Less How do you transport a kayak on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?A kayak can fit inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but you won't be able to carry any other passengers. You also run the risk of damaging your kayak or the interior of your SUV. If you're looking for a way to transport your kayak, we recommend using a roof rack or towing it behind your Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Can I put kayak directly on roof rack?Place Your Kayak or Canoe on the Roof Rack
If you are tying the kayak directly to the crossbars of the roof rack, place the boat upside down on the rack. Placing a plastic boat hull-side down can cause indentations, and while they can be removed, they will affect your boat's ability to track straight.
Do I need a kayak rack if I have a roof rack? The best and safest way to transport a kayak is by securing it to a roof rack on top of your vehicle. If you don't have a roof rack or don't want to install one, there are alternative methods to transporting a kayak, including: in the bed of a truck, on a trailer, or even behind a bike.
