Following last year's album Atlanta Millionaires Club, on her new track “In a Good Way” Faye Webster puts aside the pedal steel-forward Americana that's embellished most of her work up to now, replacing fringed leather with rich, opulent velvet. Lounge-lizard keyboards and jazzy snares caress the track's deluxe string formations, casting a luxurious, calming haze. “I didn't even know I was capable of being happy right now / but you showed me how,” sings a smitten Webster in her signature silky vocals. “I think it's my favourite song of mine right now, especially cos it's relevant,” Webster said of the track during her concert and Q&A on Twitch last night, streaming alongside a picture-in-picture of an Animal Crossing version of herself in her virtual living room. The track's accompanying video is a one-take wonder with smiley balloons and a slo-mo spotlit performance, directed by Webster herself. “It was a lot,” she says. “I was just out of breath the whole time... There were only four of us, there were so many cues for everybody to do that it was so stressful!” “In a Good Way” is out now via Secretly Canadian. Find Faye Webster on Instagram. Faye Webster – “In A Good Way”“You make me wanna cry in a good way.” That’s a good line, and with Faye Webster sounding genuinely on the verge of tears, it becomes great. Even when she’s expressing something more straightforward, there’s palpable emotion in her voice: “I didn’t know that I was capable of being happy right now, but you showed me how.” The lyrics are from the mercurial Atlanta singer-songwriter and Best New Bands alumna’s new single “In A Good Way,” out today. A soft-rock ballad tinted with retro soul and buoyed by a string quartet, it’s Webster’s first release of 2020 and first since last summer’s “Both All The Time.” Both songs arrive in the wake of her Secretly Canadian debut Atlanta Millionaires Club. “In A Good Way” has a video directed by Webster and longtime collaborator Hunter Airheart, which I invite you to watch below. “In A Good Way” is out now on Secretly Canadian.
more from New Music Tue 21st Apr 2020 14.16 BST The opening line of Faye Webster’s new single ‘In A Good Way’ may lead you to think this song is a crier, “I didn’t know that I was capable of being happy right now,” she sings. Yet as the song unfolds and the multitude of layers unfurl, it’s clear that Webster is in good hands after finding someone who makes her want to cry but ‘In A Good Way’. It’s our
Track of the Day. The song is expertly poised and hints that Webster’s follow up to last year’s record Atlanta Millionaires Club is going to put her resolutely on the map. The track make slink out of the room like the last whisky in a hotel bar but it is soon gilded by
strings and folk nuances that suggest Webster isn’t your everyday singer-songwriter. It’s a complex mix of tones in ‘In A Good Way’, perhaps reflecting the tapestry of swirling emotions new love represents, but Webster manages to pull off all the clever lyrics and even smarter studio flourishes with remarkable ease. A classical guitar may flash every so often and there are gentler moments too as Webster offers up a more delicate smile. But the real joy of this song is in the groove.
The heavy bass lends gravity to the track that would otherwise float away, buoyed by its myriad of bright ideas. Listen to Faye Webster’s ‘In A Good Way’ below. Most popular {{#articles}}

Faye Webster has today released her latest album, I Know I’m Funny haha. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify, and read a complete Track by Track breakdown of the new LP from our former Artist of the Month. I Know I’m Funny haha follows the Atlanta singer’s breakout 2019 album, Atlanta Millionaires Club, and spans 11 tracks. While recording the project, Webster collaborated with producer/mixer Drew Vandenberg (Deerhunter) and recruited a band consisting of Harold Brown (drums), Bryan Howard (bass), Nic Rosen (keys), and Matt “Pistol” Stoessel (pedal steel). In an interview with Consequence, Webster explains why people may notice a different vibe on this album. “I’ve found myself in a really happy place, with someone I genuinely love, and I think it reflects all through the record,” she says. “There is a more ‘happy’ vibe coming from me that was absent in the past couple of records.” Webster also was challenged to get out of her songwriting comfort zone by buying a “shitty” guitar. “I bought a super super shitty nylon string guitar online just to see if it would make me play differently, or spark something in me that I wouldn’t typically think of while playing my usual instruments,” she recalls. Ahead of the album, Webster released the singles “Cheers”, “I Know I’m Funny haha”, and “A Dream with a Baseball Player”. After hearing his whole catalog on repeat multiple times, I got bored and decided to scroll down to related artists, which I NEVER do, and clicked on mei. I have literally listened to her every day since. To the point that I reached out to her on social media, and we became internet friends. I started emailing her random things I came across that I liked, or things I had been working on, and we would just talk about stuff. She even mailed me her record from Japan. I honestly wouldn’t have chosen anyone else to be on this record, no matter how big of an artist it was. I think having Father appear on my last record explained a lot about the time of my life then and I feel like having mei on this record does the same. I would love to do my next tour with her. I’ll even buy her plane ticket if I have to!!! “Half of Me”: |
