About week ago we had problems with Cascadia trucks. Two broken fuel pumps within 3 days. Engines are 2012 and 2014 DD15. When they towed to dealer driver called back and said there are few trucks waiting for repair with same problem. FYI DD15 fuel pump gets lubricated by fuel and if fuel does not have enough lubricity you will pay few thousands for big mess cleanup(metal shavings in entire fuel system) and for new parts. Now I want to attach two files for reading. I think its time to start using additive-lubricants. Oil refineries are cheating on us.

  3. Those trucks fuel at same locations / chain?
What chain do you guys use?
Wouldn't surprise me that some oil company is saving money not putting in a needed additive.

one of them was fueled at flying j near rock hill, sc and after 300 miles was broken near Charleston, wv. second truck was stopped near Peoria, il . this one was fueled at Love's-Joplin, mo and Midwest truckstop-cuba, mo.
I think some refineries are using biodiesel mix as lubricant. its cheap and ok summertime but as far as I know wintertime must be used different type of additives.
I spoke with Detroit tech about this issue. he said check your tanks regularly for metal shavings and use lubricant additives if it is cold outside. he suggested to take piece of rubber hose , somehow attach strong magnet on the end and put it in the tank. after few back and forward take it out and check for debris on magnet. its not Detroit specified operation but it works ))))

  5. Wow, funny you mention this. My 2013 has had no issue, but a local guy just got a used DD15 560, I think an 09?, and his just broke the fuel pump. I never saw anything like it before. It was cold up here, so I just thought maybe there was water in it, and it froze.

  6. Loves and pilot/flying J's Have some of the worst quality fuel out there. Much higher biomass used, higher moisture content, and a lot of crap floating in there fuel. Just look at your fuel filter next time you replace it.

Also, for every 5% of biomass you loose about 0.2mpg, it doesn't have the same lubricating properties as premium diesel does, and it gunks up your injectors.

since 08 DD updated the fuel pump 6 or 7 times. your engine may have latest updated pump (last four numbers are 2150).
I see you are from Canada. do you use additives there in winter ?

  8. I just put some Howes in once in a while. I've never had fuel related issues.

I used to run Power Service, but one time down in Indiana I had two injectors go on my Powerstroke pickup. Dealer down there couldn't get me in but told me I could get back home, it will just run crappy. So I stopped at a Flying J for fuel and bought a bottle of Howes. Ten minutes on the highway, my engine light went out and it ran perfect. So I stuck with Howes after that.

    I liked your nickname )))
its hard to find non bio mixed diesel today. all pumps say 5-20% bio mixed.

some drivers are using Stanadyne ulsd lubricity . its not available in truckstops. o'raily has it. they say that additive is just lubricant, no anti gel . I want to try it.

  11. I even put Howes in my furnace oil tank....and it's summer fuel.
I don't think we have any bio fuel up here though?
