Not sure what to do.
3.6 V6 engine.
I replaced the sensor this morning, and the vehicle started fine a few times in a row, but this afternoon, the rough starts reappeared a few times, just like it was before I replaced the CPS.
So tonight I went at the harness with a Multimeter, and found the power was getting a solid 5 volts, continuously. Then I switched my multimeter to the audible setting to see if I could verify a solid ground. I tried all of the other ports on the harness, but couldn't get an audible beep/tone to save my life. The only thing that changed was the MM went from 185 (default #, not sure what it means) up to 388. Again, not sure what those #'s mean, since I had it on audible setting.
Does anyone have any ideas? Right now I'm leaning towards a broken ground in the harness.
When the vehicle starts fine, ie no chatter on startup, it runs perfect.
When the vehicle chatters on startup, the code will throw, and it will basically be in limp mode, holding me below 50 mph. But even in this limp mode, the engine runs smooth as butter, with no noises other than the chatter/rattle on startup.

May 1, 2018 My wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee V6 has a check engine light with the Camshaft Position Sensor code (P0340). The car goes into limp mode now when the light comes on, but it has cleared on its own before. In my research, I have read it could be the camshaft position sensor, the crankshaft position sensor or cam phaser. Does anyone know if this
is one camshaft position sensor throwing the code or both? Where are the sensors and is there a diy (i couldn't find one) on how to replace them? Thanks 62 KB Views:

P0340-CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT - BANK 1 SENSOR 1 you claim it has been intermittent SO I doubt R&R will correct. Were there any other codes, But what you asked - sensor is B1S1 rear of cylnder head, top mounted in valve cover. let us know how it goes
Key word CIRCUIT
BANK 1 !

It also could be oil related or a intermittent problem in the wire harness. Oil pressure and quality can affect the operation of the phasors which I hear can sometimes throw this code.

I am getting no other codes and will check the oil level. Is Bank 1 (B1S1) on the driver's side (under the intake) or on the passenger side?

On your engine B1 is passenger side. I would check connection, wiring - tight secure, no corrosion . Might want to clear code then with scan tool attached -wiggle, shake, tug at harness see if manipulation causes the code to return.. An after thought use scanner and check 'freeze frame' might be a clue...

Is this the camshaft position sensor? This is right next to the ignition coil on the passenger side. I unplugged it and reconnected it. The check engine light cleared on its own, but the code is still pending.

lets think positive - go for a ride. In future we will know to check sensor connector thoroughly if it returns,
the CEL might stay off and P will go away. As the issue is resolved - circuit issue a poor connection

Many codes have a three strikes and your out thing, a pending code means you have one strike, two more strikes till you get a CELL. If the fault is gone, the pending will clear in time.

So the check engine light keeps coming in and out on its own with the P0340 code still there. Below is the freeze frame data. Any thoughts?
