I tested the TikTok viral Baboon to the Moon Go Bag Mini to see if it is worth the hype

After seeing upwards of 20 ads a day for the Go Bag, I finally gave it a test.

As a millennial who is on her phone 24/7, I am a sucker for anything that promises to “change my life.” Not because I ever believe people, but because I am a skeptic who has to see if things live up to the hype.

To see if a product was actually as good as everyone claims it is, I tested Baboon to the Moon’s Go Bag Mini on a recent trip to Orlando. Just like when I reviewed the Away carry-on, for this trip I flew on two different airlines to put the bag to the test. I also got trapped at the airport for 10 hours and really saw if this bag was a good travel bag in any circumstance.

If you’re not on TikTok or social media, the words Baboon to the Moon might mean nothing to you. As an avid TikTok consumer, I would say that I hear this brand name every day, multiple times a day. Every day, I was seeing social media influencers talking about getting a Go Bag to bring on a trip. After a barrage of ads, I finally got in touch with the brand and was able to secure a bag for review.

Baboon to the Moon offers a number of bags, with the Go Bag being their most popular style. It comes in Mini ($159), Small ($189), and Big ($219). Plus a Go Bag Mega Tote, too. The Go-Bag Mini fits about 3-5 days' worth of clothing. It is TSA-approved as a carry-on bag, but it can even be used as a personal item. I wouldn’t advise using a Small or Big Go-Bag for a personal item, but the Mini is a good personal item size. Baboon to the Moon bags are also good for road trips, beach adventures, and extended weekend getaways.

Baboon to the Moon Go Bag Mini Review

The true brightness of the pink does not seem to photograph well, but the interior print of this bag is the true design star.

For this review, I got a Go Bag Mini, which is the smallest offering available for this style of bag. I wanted to test it as a personal item and not a carry-on bag. It measures out to be 9.5” H x 18.5” W x  12” D. Unpacked, it weighs 3.2 lbs and its capacity is 32L. One of the biggest draws of Baboon to the Moon is the color options they offer. I got the bag in Carnival Cotton Candy Pink, which is a limited edition print. The interior of the bag is very festive and fun, which I found refreshing as most travel bags come in limited colors and the interiors are always beige or black.

The size of the Mini definitely pushes the limits for a personal item, but I had no issue getting through the TSA security lines and minimal issue on the planes putting the bag under the seat. I don’t think the Small would fit as well under the seat as it is two inches wider and an inch taller.

How do you wear a Baboon to the Moon Bag?

The Go Bag is a backpack. Baboon to the Moon sells other backpacks that look more like the traditional style. But at the end of the day, you wear the Go Bag as a backpack. There are four side handles on the Go Bag that you can carry it by, but I don’t see the handle as the practical way to carry the bag around when it is full. It fits very nicely on as a backpack and that is certainly the easiest way to use it when traveling.

Baboon to the Moon Pros

  • Colorful and fun designs
  • Easy to clean
  • Lots of inner pockets for organization

I reviewed the Beis backpack a few months ago and while I loved the bag, one of my biggest gripes was the lack of colorways. In comparison, Baboon to the Moon comes in many colors and the interior prints are very fun and well-designed. It comes in nine “classic” colors and up to six limited edition prints (stock is limited on some prints). I put classic in quotes because there are bright oranges and greens included in that, and I think color options like that are a unique offering from Baboon to the Moon I hardly see anywhere else.

The material of the bag is an OM Stardust Ballistic shell material, which is very easy to wipe down and clean. That material also makes the bag waterproof, which I learned quickly because as soon as I landed in Florida, it started to pour as we walked to our car rental. My clothing and essentials inside the bag were blessedly dry and untouched.

The bag has four pockets. There are two internal mesh pockets and one large internal organization pocket. The two mesh pockets were a great place for me to store away important things like my prescription sunglasses, medicine, and smaller bags, like my belt bag. The organization pocket is nice for things you might need to grab quickly from inside the bag, like your wallet and phone charger.

Baboon to the Moon Cons

  • The straps get in the way while packing
  • A tight fit under the seat
  • Only one outer pocket

While I feel like the bag is easy to pack and fits a lot, the straps for the bag get in the way when packing. The backpack straps go over the same place that the bag opens from (unlike a traditional backpack that opens from the front and not the back). This was a weird quirk to get used to, but you can shove the straps to the side with a little adjusting and reconfiguring.

The bag only has one outer pocket and if you overstuff the bag, it is very hard to open the zipper on that pocket. If you need a quick place to store earbuds or gum, this pocket is useful. For anything bigger, you’re better off packing inside of the bag and stuffing any essential item you need to grab quickly in the interior zippered pocket.

Does Baboon to the Moon fit under an airplane seat?

To speak more on my point above, the Go Bag Mini just barely fit under the seat on my United flight. If I had stuffed it anymore, it would not have worked out. I was on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, for context. However, while it did not fit smoothly on United, it did fit easily under the seat on my JetBlue flight. JetBlue is known for having the most legroom in coach. This is something you should keep in mind when using this bag as a personal item if you’re flying on an airline with similar space to United. If you're using this as your carry-on bag, you won't have any issues at all.

Baboon to the Moon: Is it worth the hype?

While it was a tight fit under the seat on United, the Go Bag Mini fit perfectly under the seat on JetBlue.

I will say, when I first packed the bag, I thought the space was limited. Then when I went to put the bag under my seat on my United flight and the fit was so tight, I was once again comparing the bag to my Beis backpack and it wasn’t matching up. I was not the biggest fan at first, but I thankfully had my woes washed away on my return trip.

I bought a ton of souvenirs on vacation and I had to stuff the Go Bag to the brim with them. I’m talking about a giant stuffed Remy, Mickey ears, and clothing for my niece and nephew. With my other travel backpack, when I overstuffed it, the material felt like it was ready to burst at the seams. With the Baboon to the Moon Go Bag, while it was packed to the brim, the material didn't seem at risk of ripping and everything felt very sturdy. The Go Bag thankfully held up well with my extra belongings and my worries about the size were quickly squashed when I boarded my flight. It fit perfectly under the seat on JetBlue.

After using it a few times now, the Go Bag Mini fits way more than I expected it to and is just a really cute bag. I got a lot of compliments on it while traveling. I hate to agree with the kids on TikTok, but I can actually say it lives up to the hype.
