What We Do in the Shadows' fourth season featured one of the funniest sex scenes ever committed to television.

In the show, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry) get intimate with each other, but it isn't your standard sex scene. Instead, the water-fuelled romp is one of the most hilarious and distinct scenes in the entire show.

Speaking to Digital Spy and others during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Demetriou shared her experience filming such an outrageous scene, which was directed by Yana Gorskaya.

"The scene we filmed — we actually did it in two parts: making love on the sofa and then falling to the ground we did a few months later because they had to build the water tank. It was the last thing I filmed and it was absolutely incredible," Demetriou said.

"Matt was improvising loads of stuff when he was actually pretending to drown and I was really confused in the moment whether I was actually killing him or if he was acting but, of course, he’s a professional and he can swim so he wasn't drowning. But it was amazing."

Demetriou continued: "And Yana was like directing it up above and hearing your director shout notes down at you while you're in a pool was an experience I'll never have again."

What We Do in the Shadows is currently airing its fourth season in the US, with the latest episode released on July 19. The next episode airs on July 26, while the 10-episode season is set to conclude on September 6.

The show airs on FX in the US and airs on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in the UK, though a season 4 airdate has yet to be confirmed. Fifth and sixth seasons of the hit mockumentary series have already been ordered.

The first three seasons were all released to critical and fan acclaim alike. So far, the show, which is based on the 2014 mockumentary movie of the same name, has amassed a whopping 17 Emmy nominations, including a 2022 nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.

What We Do in the Shadows was previously nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020, but lost out to Schitt's Creek. This year, the series is up against Abbott Elementary, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Ted Lasso, and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

The mockumentary show What We Do in the Shadows is a humorous and playful series with darker elements. Based on the Taiki Waititi movie of the same name, the show centers around blood, death, comedy, and love. This love is found within Laszlo and Nadja's relationship.

10/10 Nadja Is Older Than Laszlo

In the pilot episode, Laszlo reminisces about how he became a vampire. He comments that a beautiful, siren-like woman floated up to his window, which was specifically not on the first floor, and hypnotized him to invite her in.

As it turns out, it was none other than Nadja of Antipaxos. This little tidbit suggests that Nadja is an older vampire, which means Laszlo is the younger of the two. However, due to the eternal nature of vampires, their ages don't come up in conversation as much. As a result, viewers may forget this fact altogether.

9/10 They Moved To America Together

The What We Do in the Shadows characters have all discussed what life as a vampire is like in a world dominated by humans. At the center of most discussions is the danger that humans pose to vampire kind, which is one of the reasons why Laszlo and Nadja left Europe together.

Laszlo and Nadja have both cited that they were run out of Europe for being vampires almost 200 years ago. Their relationship lasted the treacherous journey from Europe to America and even led to some friendships. In short, Laszlo and Nadja's relationship was magnetic enough to conjure more relationships, rather than repel them.

8/10 Both Had Relationships Outside Of One Another

Vampire relationships are fluid and are either over very quickly or are able to stand the tests of time. While Nadja and Laszlo have been together for a while, they seemingly have enough love to go around and have both had relations with other people.

One example of this would be that both of them have had a dalliance with the vampire known as The Baron. While he is only one example, Nadja and Lazlo have been with plenty of people. Due to their strong connection with each other, they seem to trust one another to always come back.

7/10 Their Fashion Tastes Differ

A running gag on What We Do in the Shadows involves a witch's hat that Laszlo absolutely adores but Nadja despises. While most of her disdain for the clothing item lies in the fact that it is cursed, she is not one to ignore how ugly it is either.

Additionally, there are times when Laszlo is open to trying on modern clothes, but Nadja's love for her usual attire prevents her from doing the same. This is seen in the Season 4 episode "Go Flip Yourself" when Laszlo enthusiastically wears flannel to symbolize his love for his favorite home improvement show.

6/10 They Share Familiars

A big part of What We Do in the Shadows discusses the use and misuse of familiars because one of the main characters, Guillermo, is a familiar. Many vampires exist without familiars and, at first glance, Laszlo and Nadja seem like those people.

However, Laszlo and Nadja have had at least eight familiars, but all of them had died. One died at the hands of The Baron, one due to the curse from Laszlo's hat, and the others were mostly due to accidents. All in all, if their familiar track record was more positive, they probably would still have one together.

5/10 Laszlo Married Nadja "Young"

There aren't that many vampire couples introduced in What We Do in the Shadows outside of Nadja and Laszlo. Even if there were, there would be no contest of which couple is more stable. Nadja and Laszlo have been together for an unstated amount of time, but despite not knowing how long they have been together, they are married.

While their union is also not specified, Laszlo stated in a video from 1978 that his age was 267, but they both have said they've been married for more than one century. This only means that their marriage must've been when Laszlo was still a relatively new vampire.

4/10 They Can't Write Music Together

Laszlo and Nadja are both lovers of music. Fans will always be able to find Laszlo behind a piano or Nadja singing an old folk song from her youth in Antipaxos. While they both share this love for music, they can't write a song together.

The episode "Collaboration" in Season 2 showcased how stubborn Laszlo and Nadja are when it comes to their tastes in music. However, even though they shouldn't write together, it doesn't mean they can't enjoy music together. This is later proven in Season 4 during Marwa and Nandor's wedding.

3/10 Laszlo Is Protective Of Nadja

The first season of the series sees Nadja expressing her love for a human man named Gregor. Even though she has expressed strong feelings for Gregor, Laszlo never seemed jealous of this love. Instead, he seemed protective. He did admit to killing Gregor in all of his past lives, but Laszlo states that it was because Gregor's presence made Nadja cry.

Laszlo's protectiveness of Nadja is always there but is later emphasized by the reason he won't return to the UK when Nadja gets offered the job of a lifetime. This was because Laszlo was a member of a club that looked down on Nadja. The loving husband just couldn't stand for that nonsense.

2/10 Nadja Always Chooses Laszlo

Even when faced with the romantic whims of her on-again-off-again human lover, Gregor, Nadja still chose Laszlo. However, her love is also proven in grander ways.

In Season 3 of What We Do in the Shadows, Nadja is given the opportunity of a vampire's lifetime to assume a position on the Supreme Vampiric Council in England, but she gives it all up because she missed Laszlo so much. She even cites that her work on the council was fulfilling but despite her strides, she couldn't live that far away from her husband.

1/10 Laszlo And Nadja Both Show Interest In Raising Children

As far as viewers are aware, vampires cannot create offspring, but that doesn't stop vampires from caring for human children. Season 4 of the series even points out that vampires find children to be very charming, enough to garner big audiences for Nadja's vampire club.

But Nadja and Laszlo's affinity for caring for children is more than being an adoring fan of a dancing Colin Robinson. Nadja also used to look after Joanie, Sean and Charmaine's grandmother, when she was younger. Laszlo grew an immense attachment to the young version of Colin Robinson. While they did not do these nurturing acts together, they both prove their compassion and empathy.
