Westgate - average/ water park not worth it

KingfamofBoston , FAMILY Sep 16, 2022

Location of resort is excellent, central and close to all big parks. The rooms are average, if you have neighbors the walls are thin. You can hear them at 4 am when they are still partying! The water park, the water temp is too warm, if you like bath like temps it will be great for you. However on a hot humid day - it wasn't refreshing at all. The lazy river pool is to shallow for most adults. Great for younger kids! the wave pool is hot water and small. the slides are great for kids. The kitchen wasn't stocked as well as other places. only one pan and pot - no oven pans to use the oven!

Good place to stay if you are willing to ask for things to be fixed. Super location!

Constandina T , COUPLES Sep 15, 2022

This can be rated a "1" or "4" depending on your situation and willingness to take the time to get things fixed . The property has (I was told) over 2,000 units. In a post-Covid world, We were pleasantly surprised to see the number of employees to work to make our stay pleasant. They were all cheerful. Whenever we used the text service (do use it!) to get something repaired or needed (and there was a lot of stuff needing repair) an "engineer" or housekeeping was at our door within 15 minutes. Every time we got a follow-up call to be sure our issue was resolved. We were in building 80. It needs updating. Appliances are older, as is the furniture. While there are 7 pools on the property, none of them are directly by this building. The property advertises DVD players. However, they are being removed from the rooms. The management was willing to find one for us. However, our connection was not HDMI and we decided it wasn’t worth their time to dig one up. We appreciated their willingness to give it a try. Employees do not always have the correct information via text or phone, which is a definite area for improvement for the management to improve. One complaint I’ve seen on other reviews is getting hot water. This was an issue for us. The engineer came and turned on ALL the faucets in the room for a couple minutes and that brought the hot water to our room. We just did that every day and had plenty of hot water. Yes, the rooms are NOT soundproof. We travel a lot and this is not an unusual complaint. Now, for the reason I gave this place a 4 rating. We are timeshare owners with another company and exchanged using Interval. Hence, our cost for the entire week was very reasonable. We were not given activity cards, or free access to the Waterpark, which did not matter to us, since we didn’t have kids. If a family is here, you need to understand what you get and what you have to pay for out of pocket before booking. For example, the cute little waterpark is $20/day per person. This may seem like a lot. However, compared to Wet and Wild it’s about 1/2 price and just check the prices at the Universal or Disney waterpark and you won’t feel so bad here. Westgate owners get free admission…which if you have ever owned a timeshare, you would say…glad they get special perks for their huge investment. Also, if you ever go to a Disney property, they also have hefty resort fees, and you will be paying a LOT more each night. The grounds are beautiful. Parking is FREE. The condos have full or partial kitchens depending on what size you book. There is a Walmart, Whole-foods, and Publix close by. There is an on-site restaurant, convenience store, game room, and one of the pools (available to all guests) has a bar and snack shop. There are tennis courts, barbecue pits, and a wonderful walking path. You can rent bikes. They have an activity department that costs extra depending on what you want to do, gym ($5/day without an activity or owner card)… so, you could come here, spend the whole week and never leave. Universal and Sea World are less than two miles away and Disney is about a 6 mile drive. So, in summary…for the cost compared to "high end" resorts and hotels, this is a great family resort. The key is to not live with broken stuff that might be in your room…just ask and they will do whatever they can to make it right. I am NOT an employee or owner of Westgate Resorts. I’m just a gal that travels to a lot of different places and saw some unfair reviews, so wanted to give an unbiased review.

Stay but don't buy.

cosort , COUPLES Aug 28, 2022

I am, unfortunately, an owner here. I fell victim to their scam about 4 years ago. June was my first time staying there. Our room was nice and the grounds are meticulously kept. We were in a studio, so you walk in one main door and then there is door to go in our studio and a door for other guests to enter their 2-bedroom unit. While I like that I can split my 3-bedroom for two stays, this set up is not ideal. Unfortunately we could hear everything from our neighbors and the kids were very loud, very early. Our view off the balcony was really nice and we could see fireworks at night over the lake. The resort is huge with several pools, places to eat and things to do. As big as it is, it feels so congested. If the grounds weren't so pretty it would just feel like a busy apartment complex. The walking paths were nice. I may catch some grief for saying this but I think the resort could be very nice but because all they care about is selling timeshares, they practically give away rooms to "potential" buyers. This takes away from the relaxing experience when there are sales people and golf carts all over giving tours but it also brings in lots of people that probably couldn't afford a nice hotel. Local families come & sit through the presentation to get the discounted or complimentary stay which makes the resort less desirable in my opinion. My key stopped working half way into our trip and it happened to our neighbor as well. I was told when I called the desk for help that this happens often. Do NOT get suckered into a timeshare with Westgate. It is horrible and not worth the money. There is absolutely no advantage and they will say anything to convince you otherwise. Not a bad place to stay, just don't buy!

BOGUS FEES and FAKE Charges= 400 a night not 100

P3449JBjohni , COUPLES Aug 23, 2022

What a HORROR show! First I was quoted roughly 100 for the stay, by the time I had travelled to Orlando Florida they had baited and switched the cost to 212 (with bogus fees) DOUBLED the cost of the stay, just for showing up (of course they waited til after you travelled to pull it)the price went from 100 to 212 walking in...but by the time you left it was 380 (FOUR TIMES the quoted price)

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! - Do Not Stay in This Hotel

I8419EGmariag , FAMILY Aug 16, 2022

Horrible place, please do not stay here, the place is dirty, maintenance is horrible, i warned you, i regretted not to do a better homework, look for new hotels located in International drive, there are 2 better than this one and same price, i felt scammed by this people, the same price or more expensive than new hotels in the area and this hotel is disgusting. But it was my fault 🤦‍♀️
