It shouldn't take several seconds to backup a 4-megabyte photo. So I recorded how long it took to write a thousand files, each containing 100 megabytes of random numbers. For comparison, I did the same thing on the old Acorndata drive that this Canvio was bought to replace, and here are graphs showing the differences (mind the different vertical scales). Writing to the old Acorndata never took so much as 5 seconds, while writing to the Canvio took over 20 seconds about 1% of the time, and once took over 80 seconds. (The mean times were 2.8 seconds for the old Acorndata and 3.7 seconds for the new Canvio.) If you Google "why is my canvio so slow" (without the quotation marks), you'll see that other people have this same problem.

We have lots of these. Every time one of my kids gets a computer then need at least two of these--one for Time Machine backup and one for clone backup. Sometimes they need a 3rd one just for extra storage. i've NEVER had a Toshiba external portable drive fail and I've used them a lot. Here's what I recommend you get:
1) For Time Machine buy at least double your internal drive -- so if 1TB internal then buy 2 TB. If you have 512 I'd still get a
2 TB because it's not much more money and allows more backups before you have to copy over old data.
2) For a clone backup you only need the same size as your internal drive so if 1 TB or less then buy 1 TB Toshiba. the 2 TB will be a waste.
3) For extra storage see #1 above or even go for a 4TB depending on how much you want to store and what the value is.

This was great. I have a Mac form 2016 and I have been using it for work and my education after a bachelors degree and half way through a masters my Mac was feed up with me, because I always keep all of my files. Whenever I buy hard drives (whether external/portable or internal), I always perform a surface scan to make sure that there are no bad sectors or sectors that are about to fail. I use a simple and free program called HDDScan.
I resorted to this Toshiba external HDD because after purchasing five 5 TB Seagate One Touch Portable hard drives (which are currently on sale at Costco), I had to return *four* of them due to either read errors or hard-to-read blocks which caused the read/write speed to tank! All four of the aforementioned HDDs also exhibited the dreaded "click of death" -- which automatically give me a panic attack.
Anywho, this Toshiba HDD performed as expected! You can see the result of HDDScan that shows no sharp dip in transfer speed. However, the read pattern indicates that this is likely a SMR (shingled magnetic recording) drive -- which is no biggie for my intended use (cold-storage). The write speed of 130+ MB/s for a 15 GB video file is very satisfactory for me. Obviously, the transfer speed will decrease as the drive becomes fuller.
Overall, I can highly recommend this drive!

Se você planeja embrulhar isso em um travesseiro e nunca viajar com ele, compre! Se você planeja fazer qualquer coisa, procure por um disco rugged robusto ou SSD rugged. Este disco rígido não sobreviveu a uma curta distância da minha casa para o meu escritório. Es el primer disco duro externo que tengo, pero si los comparo con los ADATA de 1TB, la velocidad de transferencia es superior con Toshiba, tampoco es que tarde 1 minuto en transferir 50gb pero es un tiempo menor que los ADATA. Al final del día lo que cuenta es que te respalde los archivos, sin embargo lo pequeño del disco es muy atractivo. Bonito, ligero, rápido y a buen precio.
