Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 22, 2021 This is the 3rd Norton Anthology I've had to read for English Lit classes. With the first two (Am. Lit read in a previous semester), I read each preface carefully (sometimes several times) in order to understand the context of the stories to follow. If I had difficulty, I just chalked it up to my own understanding. Now, on my third book, I realize the writing is the issue. The prefaces are essential to providing context, yet often parts do not make sense until you've read the story. It would be better if Norton just gave a few lines of essential notes to preface, and then after the story included the remaining information. As it is I now google for context, read the story, and come back and skim the preface for anything important. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 7, 2022 This book is very “used”. It is written in with tabs placed and very worn!! Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 1, 2020 I ordered these "new" but there is most definitely writing on some of the stories and chapters, as though a student had used the anthology before I received it. Not the end of the world, as every note was written in pencil and able to be erased. In fact, I notice on some pages it looked as though someone had gone through the anthology and erased other notes and comments but missed some that I later discovered. And continue to discover.
