Southwest Airlines offers passengers the option to purchase tickets online. When you reserve a flight online the airline sends you an email that includes a six-digit, alphanumeric reservation-confirmation-number; this eliminates the need for a paper ticket. The confirmation number allows you to check-in for your flight -- online -- up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled departure time. You have the option of using your ticketless confirmation to check in at a Southwest Airline kiosk at the airport. This eliminates the need to stand in long lines at the ticket counter.

Online

Step 1

Visit the Southwest Airlines website. Locate and click "Check In," located on the right side under the "Quick Air Links" section.

Step 2

Enter your confirmation number in the designated field.

Step 3

Enter your first and last name in the boxes provided, and click "Check In."

Step 4

Follow the necessary steps to change your flight, select or change your seat and print your boarding pass. You must have a boarding pass to enter the plane.

Airline Kiosk

Step 1

Write down or print your reservation confirmation number. This is found on the email you received from Southwest Airlines. Keep it accessible upon your arrival at the airport. The confirmation number is essential to boarding the flight.

Step 2

Arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight time. Arriving early allows ample time to pass through the ticket and security lines.

Step 3

Locate the Southwest Airlines kiosk at the airport.

Step 4

Access your reservation by entering the confirmation number. Swipe a major credit card with your name on it.

Step 5

Retrieve your reservation and follow the steps on the kiosk screen to receive your boarding pass. Upon accessing your reservation you have the option to change your flight, add yourself to a standby list or upgrade to Business Select. Print the itinerary receipt for your records.
