How To Make

  1. Prepare a 9 x 9-inch pan lined with wax paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix peanut butter with about 3 tbsp. sweetened condensed milk, stirring until smooth. Add additional sweetened condensed milk if needed to thin. Set aside.
  3. Add chocolate to a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Add the remaining sweetened condensed milk and vanilla
  5. Microwave 90 seconds then stir. Continue heating in 30-second increments until smooth. Do not overheat.
  6. Pour chocolate mixture into wax paper lined 9×9 inch pan, and spread with a spatula until even.
  7. Scoop peanut butter mixture onto the chocolate mixture. Using a spoon, carefully spread across the top of the chocolate. Let cool.
  8. To remove fudge, lift the wax paper from pan and slice with a knife or pizza cutter.

Get started by lining a 9×9 inch pan with wax paper. You don’t have to do this step, but it makes it really easy to remove and cut the fudge once it hardens.

Kitchen Tip: It can be tricky to get the wax paper to stay in the pan. Crease around the bottom edges, folding the paper to help, then place 2 cans into the dish to weigh it down while you make the recipe.

This fudge is much easier to make and you have a lesser chance of it not working. Check out this post for tips on how to fix fudge that hasn’t set, but by using sweetened condensed milk, you should not have this problem.

To get started,  scoop the peanut butter into a small bowl.

I used Jiffy, but you could use natural peanut butter, allergy-free butter, or even Nutella for a different version.

Pour a small amount of the sweetened condensed milk into the peanut butter.

Start with about 3 tbsp. or so. Stir. If the mixture is still pretty thick, add more sweetened condensed milk to thin it out. Set the peanut butter aside.

Next, place the chocolate into a microwave-safe medium-sized bowl. Add the remaining sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Don’t have vanilla? Simply leave it out.

Place in the microwave for 90 seconds. Stir.

Continue heating in 15-30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted. Do not overcook or the chocolate will seize up.

Kitchen Tip: You can use chocolate chips for an even faster version or buy brick chocolate to save a little money. Carefully use the tip of a knife to break apart the brick.

Once the chocolate is melted, pour into the wax paper-lined 9×9 inch pan. Use a spatula to spread it evenly in the pan.

Scoop the peanut butter mixture onto the chocolate mixture. Use a spoon to carefully spread it across the top portion. Set aside to harden, about 60 – 90 minutes.

Once the fudge is hard, lift the wax paper from the pan and use a knife or pizza cutter to slice it into squares.

Can You Freeze Peanut Butter Fudge Made With Sweetened Condensed Milk?

Yes, you can! Store in an airtight container or wrap with wax paper and seal in a ziplock bag. Follow these tips for the best results:
-Make sure the fudge is properly cooled before freezing.
-Don’t store it in the door portion of the freezer as it’s the warmer spot.
-Prevent ice crystals and freezer burn by using an air-tight container and wrapping with parchment paper or wax paper.
-If storing fudge in layers, place a piece of wax paper between the layers.

Can you use peanut butter chips instead of peanut butter?

Peanut butter chips can be melted... think peanut butter fudge. Use the equivalent weight in a recipe that calls for a melted chip. If it is meant to be firm, add a bit of powdered sugar, just as you might in a candy recipe.

Is fudge better with condensed milk or evaporated milk?

Condensed milk is the perfect ingredient to use when making fudge since it is known for its creamy and thick texture. If condensed milk is not available, evaporated milk can work as a substitute. While the fudge won't be as sweet, alternative sweeteners can be used and still have a similar consistency and flavor.

Why won't my peanut butter fudge Harden?

What causes peanut butter fudge not to harden? Fudge not setting is often caused by the fudge mixture not getting hot enough or not being cooked for long enough. If it's really soft, you can try to reheat it, adding a little more milk. Bring it slowly back to a boil then try again - it should set firmer.

Does fudge made with sweetened condensed milk need to be refrigerated?

Store in an airtight container. Fudge does not need to be kept refrigerated.
