Lg inverter direct drive top load washer leaking from bottom

If your LG front-load washer is leaking water, you’re not alone. Leaks are more common with front-loading models, but don’t worry! We’ll point out the different areas that LG front-load washers can leak from and describe the possible causes of each type of leak. We will also show you how to fix each problem yourself. We even have helpful tips for how to prevent leaks from happening in the future.

Here’s Why Your LG Front Load Washer Is Leaking

If you’re having problems with your LG front-load washer leaking water, it’s important to take care of the issue as soon as possible. Left unchecked, leaks can cause serious damage to your laundry room floor. That’s why it’s important to follow these LG washer troubleshooting tips and stop the leak before it requires service from an LG technician.

Washing Machine Leaking in Back

If you have an LG washer leaking in back behind the machine, it’s likely due to a problem with the hoses. The first thing you should do is check all of the hoses for any kinks, cracks, or other damage. Tighten all loose connections, and if you find any damage, replace the hose immediately.

Using the wrong type of detergent or too much detergent can also cause your machine to leak. If you’re using too much detergent, suds can build up and cause the washer to overflow. Try switching to an HE detergent and see if that solves the problem.

To help stop an LG washer from leaking from the back, run a tub clean cycle three times with a tub cleaner. Each new cycle requires a fresh cleaner tablet.

Washer Leaking from the Door

If your LG washer is leaking from the door, it could be because the gasket isn’t sealing properly. The first thing you should do is check the gasket for any rips, tears, or other damage. If you find any damage, you’ll need to replace the gasket.

If there’s no damage though, put on some rubber gloves and follow these easy cleaning steps:

  1. Mix 3/4 cup bleach into 1 gallon of warm water.
  2. Wipe the door glass clean with a soft cloth dampened with cleaning solution, especially around the gasket connection.
  3. Using the same solution and cloth, clean the outside of the gasket. Clean any residue from within the gasket as well.
  4. Run one more tub clean cycle with nothing but a tub cleaner tablet.

Be sure to keep the washer door gasket clean at all times and perform these steps monthly to avoid leaks.

Leaky Washer Detergent Dispenser

The detergent drawer or dispenser can get clogged up with residue after repeated use. This residue may eventually prevent the dispenser from operating as it should, and can even cause LG washer leaks.

The good news is that you can fix this type of leak easily yourself. Just take the detergent drawer out of the machine and clean it with a soft cloth and some warm, soapy water. If the drawer is really dirty, you may need to use a toothbrush to get all the residue out.

Once the drawer is clean, put it back in the machine and make sure it’s seated properly. Then run a tub clean cycle with nothing but a tub cleaner tablet to ensure the leak is gone.

Model Number WT5070CW Brand LG Age Less than 1 year

Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me identify the cause of a leak on my washer. I've been able to find where the water is coming from, but I'm not sure why it's leaking. The machine seems to fill and drain fine. It's only during a portion of the wash cycle when the machine is trying to add a small amount of water for whatever reason does it leak from THIS spot on the back of the drum.

Not a lot of water comes out, but I also don't notice any actually going into the tub either when the water is running during this portion of the cycle. I've checked the detergent tray for any obstructions and it looks nice and clean.

I'm just wondering what I should be looking for before I attempt tearing any further into this. Thanks.

Hi,

I don't have any training on LG products, but you posted the Age above as being Less than 1 year, if that's true then you should have a full warranty on it from LG.

I'm attaching the service manual below if its out of warranty, if that will help you.

Call LG to have it checked right away since it's less than a year old. You may have a problem with one of the water lines leaking into the top section of the tub and it's leaking through an overflow vent.

I know it has been a while, but I have exactly the same problem with my washer and have no idea how to proceed. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? Thanks!

  • #5

What is your model and serial number?

  • #6

Model is LG WT5101H. Would have to check on the serial number when get home. Thanks for following up on this! I think the only time when leak occurs during the wash cycle is when soap is added the the drum. I did raise the top yesterday and inspected a rubber hose which goes to the detergent dispenser. Did not seem to have any obvious defects. There is also a small opening right above the area where the water drips down, but I have no idea what it is.

Well, just in case somebody else has this problem. Solution was simple but not obvious. On this washer there is a dispenser at the back of the unit for detergent and softener and bleach dispenser in the left front corner.

I was looking for the problem at the back of the unit since that is where the leak was. It turned out the problem was with the bleach dispenser. There are a couple of openings below it that were completely blocked with sediment.

When water was flushed through the soap and bleach dispensers, since it could not go through the openings into the drum, it went around the washer to the back where it leaked on the floor.

Once the slots were cleaned, the leak disappeared.

Hi,

Rick posted the service manual for your model in post#4 here: FIXED LG top load washer will not drain

It will tell and show you how to remove the top portion of your washer.

Is there some way to clean those holes out?

That would be a question that wildimaginations could likely answer for you, hes the expert with LG and Samsung washers.

We had this problem in 2013 and after three tech visits Home Depot replaced it. Today the same problem occurred with the replacement.

Yes... the leak starts when the machine runs water through the bleach dispenser.

Can you provide pictures of where the block is?

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Were you ever able to repair this? I have the same issue with a small amount of water running out of that outlet on the tub, can't find any obvious blockage of the bleach dispenser. Anyone know where the bleach actually enters the tub? Thanks in advance

Yes... make sure your washer is balanced. Thoroughly clean the bleach dispenser and run warm/hot water through it. Run the tub clean cycle.

LG actually has this addressed on the model's FAQ page.

Maybe I'll recheck the balance/level. I cleaned the dispenser and ran the tub clean cycle, ran a load of laundry and it didn't leak. Moved the washer back in place ran another and it leaked again. Thanks for the quick reply.

I am having the same problem!

I am having the same problem except my washer is brand new and has only had 5 loads run with no bleach usage. The water is running out of the bleach dispenser, overfilling the reservoir and gushing over the side of the drum onto the floor through the machine. I am seeing that it appears to be a free-fall drain system, is it possible that there are supposed to be tubes running into the drum? Could it be that our water pressure is too high? OR (in another blog) it said something about a Bleach Restrictor Plate needing replaced. Any answers for a new washer? Thanks!

If its brand new, set up a service call with LG under warranty to come out to see what's going on.

Mine had a chip on the bleach reservoir.

Repaired using a cut piece of plastic from a milk jug. I sanded both and glued using JB Weld for plastic.

Why is my LG washing machine leaking from the bottom?

Wondering why is water leaking from the bottom of my washing machine? A detergent error is usually the cause. Using too much detergent or regular detergent in an HE washer can cause an excess of suds. When this occurs, you'll notice your LG front load washer leaking water from underneath.
