Is anyone else bothered by Doc Ock's contradiction in the film?

First he states when hes sitting with Peter, "Intelligence is not a privilege its a gift"

Then in his final moments, Peter says to Ock "You once told me intelligence....." and Ock responds "A Privilege"

this is one of my biggest problems with this movie, does this bother anyone else??????

Nope because shoddy writing is what I expect from half-assed writers on these movies.

I interperet that as Doc is too mentally and physically beat down to know exactly what he had said, he just recalls the conversation.
    OR
    No one caught the slip-up
    OR
They caught it but didn't have the time or budget to re-shoot.

I'm not gonna try to defend it. I agree with Mr 7000+ about the writing in general . . . but, we look for our characters in movies to make some kind of journey during the film; after what Ock had been through and realised during the film maybe would have changed his views and his beliefs.

Wow, you have some deep rooted emotional problems to hate this film as much as you do. I've read your other posts. It's really sad. Get a life.

The way he says "...Privilege!" at the end comes off very resigned/you-were-right-ish. He finally sees it, as Peter has always seen it, as a privilege to be responsible with rather than a gift to do with what one pleases. At least that's how that exchange has always appeared to me.

In french version, Ock says : "Not a privilege" which makes a little more sense.

I've seen him in french, so they corrected it. In french he says "not a privilege"

Hmm... never noticed it before, but now that I think about it, I wager that it was probably intentional and representative of the two ends of Octavius's character arc.

I never really noticed this either. But I guess I always just assumed he was recalling the conversation or had almost just been beaten sensless after days and days of losing his mind and never really gave it any thought.

is a bit of an error, but not that major.

Intelligence and consistency are not a concern for Raimi in this franchise.

I did notice it and it was an issue to me for a while.
I don’t mind and even welcome deliberate lose ends and plot holes in movies where it’s appropriate, either its blatantly obvious that the viewers can figure it out for themselves without being shown or because it is the purpose of the plot to be open ended for the viewers to decide the outcome for themselves depending on their perspective.
However, what is frustrating is that you don’t really know if that short line was a deliberate hole or a writing error. So I’m inclined to believe it’s the later. See, I detest this kind of liberty foreign translators sometimes take. Writing errors aside, you should translate only what you hear, unless of course you’re reading from the original script.
This reminds me of Stryker’s line from X2: “Nature.”
When I saw the film in the movie theater my native language subtitles read: “Nature does its work,” as if implying that he has evolved intellectually. Now he could’ve meant that, it’s possible, but that also could’ve been a code word to subdue Logan. The translation erased the double meaning completely.

So? I have an opinion on this movie that differs from your own. I'm free to express this as often as I like and contrary to what you think, I have a life so deal with it.
