I cant get my ring doorbell to connect to wifi

I have a basic ring doorbell. I have great wifi. 1GB download 1GB upload and 2 ping typically. I go thru set up process and it connects but literally 2 seconds later disconnects. Why????

I cant get my ring doorbell to connect to wifi

level 1

Are you making it all the way through the setup process? I have had similar issues in the past because I have my phone set to switch to LTE when there is no internet on WiFi, so when setting up Ring devices I always have to turn off cellular connectivity on my phone so that it will stay connected to the ring devices wifi long enough to finish setup. I also have a super secure router that won't allow devices access to the internet without permission (my wife does financial work from home) so I have to enter the MAC address of the device into my router and tell the router that the device is OK (that's super simplified but you get the idea).

level 2

Yes it says setup successful and everything. But once that’s all done it instantly disconnects

level 1

It looks like you could be on “smart WiFi”. My ISP Vodafone Ireland provides with their own router which has only one WiFi network but combines 2.4ghz and 5ghz which was causing havoc with my smart home devices until I separated them in router settings. As lads above mentioned to contact your ISP and request them to split into two networks

level 2

Ok that makes sense, on top of my router it says 5g and 2.4 g which obviously stands for GHZ. I only have 1 network that all people are on. So I just need to separate the 2.4 from the 5.

level 2

If I just said screw it and bought a ring 3 would that solve my issue?

level 2

Unfortunately not possible. I’m in an apartment and all the cords are in the wall. Can’t unplug anything bc there’s no wires to unplug

level 1

Not sure to be honest as if both frequencies are still under one network and router may switch between them as it please. Buying Ring 3 could be an option but keep in mind that most of smart power plug switches are still on 2.4ghz so if you ever wanna get them you may come across the same issue.

level 1

I had this problem, turned out that the screw that holds the faceplate was too tight. Loosen it and never had an issue connecting again. Might help might not. But it’s worth a shot

did you check the wiring voltage ? it the voltage is too high for ring it will cause issues

How to Reconnect Ring Doorbell to Wi-Fi

To connect to a new Wi-Fi network or reconnect your Ring Doorbell, your device needs to be put in Setup Mode. You must take this step the first time you set up your device and any time you need to reset or change the Wi-Fi connection.

Here is a helpful YouTube video that walks you through how to change your Ring’s Wi-Fi; it’s essentially the same process:

How to Put the Ring Doorbell in Setup Mode

How does Setup Mode work? In Setup Mode, your Ring Doorbell will broadcast a temporary Wi-Fi network to aid in the connection between your device and your phone. The Ring app on your phone will find and connect to this network to communicate with your doorbell and tell it to connect to your permanent home network.

After setup is complete, the device will stop broadcasting the temporary network, and it will stay connected to your home’s Wi-Fi. To activate Setup Mode on the Ring Doorbell, press and release the orange button located on the back of the device. The light on the front of the Ring Doorbell will begin spinning when you have properly started Setup Mode.

If you’re still having issues, follow these steps to do a factory reset:

  1. Remove the Ring Doorbell from the mount by unscrewing the bottom two screws with a Torx (T15) Screwdriver.
  2. Press the orange button for at least 15 seconds.

Your Ring Doorbell will flash a couple of times, which means it worked. Once it stops, hit the orange button again to go back into Setup Mode.

How to Change the Wi-Fi Network on the Ring Doorbell

Perhaps you are moving, or you have changed internet service providers and just installed a new router. You will need to let your Ring Doorbell know about this change by resetting it.

If you have already set up the device’s Wi-Fi, but you need to reset or change it for any reason, here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Open the Ring app on your smartphone and go to the menu.
  2. Navigate to the device you are resetting, then tap Device Health.
  3. Select Change Wi-Fi Network.
  4. Choose your desired network from the list of available connections.
  5. After selecting, you will need to press the orange button on the back of the doorbell, which requires you to pull it off its mounting plate.

Troubleshooting Ring Doorbell Wi-Fi Connection

Your Ring Doorbell requires a Wi-Fi network to perform its many useful smart features. If you ever have any issues connecting to a Wi-Fi network or stay connected, you can always troubleshoot the problem yourself.

To figure out why your Ring Doorbell is not staying connected to Wi-Fi, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Check your connection type. The Ring Doorbell requires a 2.4Ghz network. Most home networks will fit this qualification, but it always is essential to check and make sure you have the right setup for your doorbell. If not, you may need a different router or a different internet provider.
  • Restart your home’s router. Overheating can slow down your home’s router, affect its ability to run correctly, and provide a strong enough signal for devices to stay connected. To solve this, restart it to allow it to cool down. Unplug the cables, let it sit for a few seconds, then plug everything back in.

In many cases, simply reconnecting your Ring Doorbell to your Wi-Fi network will be enough to get it connected again.

What If My Ring Doorbell Still Won’t Connect?

When in doubt, contact Ring technical support. Their specialists can walk you through your issue and help you come up with a solution.

Otherwise, if you find your internet connection is still lacking, consider investing in the Ring Chime Pro (Amazon), which is also a Wi-Fi Extender. Boost your Wi-Fi signal up to 2000 square feet while also bringing additional functionality.

Are you tired of your Ring Doorbell depending on Wi-Fi? You could also consider the premium Ring Elite (Amazon) that doesn’t need Wi-Fi (It uses PoE or Power over Ethernet).

Why will my Ring Doorbell not connecting to Wi

Check to see whether another Wi-Fi device is having a problem connecting to the network. Unplug your router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. See if your Ring Doorbell automatically reconnects. Turn off the power to your Ring Pro at the breaker box for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Why won't my Ring Doorbell connect during setup?

Solving connection issues While not comprehensive, the three most common causes of failure to complete Setup (after entering an incorrect password) are your Ring device being too far from your wifi router, having a problem with your internet connection, or some type of issue related to your wifi modem or router.

How do I get my Ring Doorbell connected to my Wi

Connecting your already-installed Ring device to a new or existing Wi-Fi network is as simple (if not easier) than the initial setup steps. Step 1: In the Ring app, select the three bars icon at the top-right corner of the homepage. Then, select Devices. Step 2: Choose the camera or doorbell you need to reconnect.
