How to block ads on facebook 2022

People run ads on Facebook to establish their business presence. Advertising is the main source of revenue for the platform. However, the ads you see after the 7th and 8th post are annoying. But don't worry, you can easily block these sponsored ads on your Facebook and News Feed. Then you will stop seeing those boring banners, photos and videos that you don't like.

A billion users use Facebook every day, myself included. We use FB to see what our friends are sharing and how they are having their best time online. But when we scroll down the page, I mean the News Feed and the Timeline. There are contents that we don't like at all. These are sponsored ads and they are too annoying.

According to Facebook, advertising is presented to each person based on their interests. Simply put, the sponsored ads you seek are based on your interests. I know you don't like it, but that's how Facebook makes money and you use their platform for free.

I will be very honest with you. Because there is no proper method to stop seeing sponsored ads on Facebook. There are no official settings that allow you to disable them and free yourself from tension.

However, there are tricks you can follow and available settings you can change. You can change your ad settings to block these interest-based sponsored ads on your Facebook feed, timeline, or sidebar. You can also block ads on Messenger.

Block sponsored ads on Facebook

As I mentioned, Facebook doesn't make it easy to get rid of ads. These are interest based and you will have to remove them one by one. Because there are no settings available to disable and remove ads. You can also use an Ad-Blocker extension on your PC to block sponsored ads on Facebook.

2022 Update: FYI, effective January 2022, the default menu ad settings have been removed. Yes, you can hide ads from a specific advertiser but even if you do, you will see new sponsored ads. I hope you understand what I mean. In fact, a best ad blocker extension is the only solution for PC users right now, but for Facebook app, there is no way to stop or block sponsored ads.

To access Ads Preferences: You will need to find an ad in your News Feed. Then click on the three dots at the top right of this ad. Click the Why am I seeing this ad? Finally, click on the Manage your advertising preferences option with the gear icon.

I will now tell you about each of these settings and preferences. Let's start by blocking those annoying sponsored ads on FB:

  1. Open your Facebook.
  2. Go to Manage ad preferences.
  3. Delete all your interests from all categories.
  4. Get rid of and remove advertisers and businesses.
  5. Disable the About your info option and delete your categories.
  6. In the ad, set the option to Not Allowed and Nobody.
  7. Hide ad topics permanently.

That's exactly how you can get rid of sponsored ads on your Facebook News Feed. However, as mentioned in the steps above. I will provide more details for each of the above steps.

Delete all your interests

For your information, interests are based on every activity on the platform, including engagements, page likes, and posts.

Once you are in your section of interest, follow the procedure above. I mentioned that you should remove every interest. Because that's exactly why and how Facebook shows interest-related ads. So go through all the tabs and categories and delete them all.

The categories are: Business & Industry, News & Entertainment, Technology, Travel, Places & Events, People, Leisure & Activities. Also shopping and fashion, sports and education, lifestyle and culture, and others.

Review each category and delete the items within it. Also, don't forget to click the See more option to expand the deleted items in that category.

Remove all advertisers and businesses

This is the type of category in which advertisers and businesses advertise. For example, on Facebook, I searched for a game. Facebook therefore stores this information, which allows me to see game advertisements on the homepage.

The advertisers and businesses section contains “Who uploaded a listing with your information and advertised on it”. Also “Who uploaded and shared a list with your information”, then click on More to expand other categories. For example, which website, app or store you interacted with, which ones you visited, which ads you checked out, and which ads you hid. Delete to block everything in those categories as well.

Stop providing your information

This is the most important section you need to check to end sponsorship on your Facebook account. The “About you” section contains your relationship status, education, employer, job, etc. This is the main reason why you see ads like this on your News Feed. Just disable them.

The other section contains your information categories. For example, mobile network or device users, Wi-Fi users, recent changes to mobile networks or devices, and potential changes to mobile networks or devices.

The above categories help advertisers reach you. If you're using an iPhone XR and have searched for iPhone Xr cases, you'll see similar ads in your News Feed. Get rid of this information to block these annoying ads.

Facebook ad settings

This part is divided into three sections. You need to set the first two sections to Not Allowed and the last to Nobody as shown in the screenshot below.

Set the “Ads based on partner data” option to Not Allowed. Also set the “Ads based on your activity on FB company products you find and see elsewhere” option to Not Allowed. Finally, set the “Ads that include your social action” option to No One: Ads that include your social action” to Not Allowed, and you're good to go.

Hide ad topics on Facebook

Last but not the least, you have the option to hide ad topics, I don't want to mention those words here. But you have to permanently hide the subject of the ad you want to see. Set all three topics to be permanently hidden so that you no longer see these ads on your Facebook account.

Because by default, three options are available: hide for 6 months, for 1 year and permanently. Just choose the “Hide permanently” option and it's done.

Alternative Method to Stop Facebook Sponsored Ads

This is the recommended procedure to block or stop ads on your Facebook using your mobile. Due to the settings you can manage at the moment but on a daily and monthly basis it is a hassle.

That's why I recommend using a third-party app. Especially to block FB like on mobile. This also allows you to activate the dark mode on your Facebook on mobile like downloading FB stories on the gallery. Anyway, I can talk all day about the app known as Friendly for Facebook.

Just download and install the Friendly for Facebook app from Google Play. Then, for 1 or 2 USD or even 10 one-time fees, you can purchase the premium service and enjoy Facebook ad-free for life. I can guarantee you that the app is much better than the official Facebook app. However, this article is no longer sponsored.

How to Stop Facebook Sponsored Ads on PC

Thank Google Chrome for providing such a variety of extensions for their users. Blocking Facebook Ads on your PC has never been easier. But now, Google Chrome extensions are known as “Ad Block for Social” which can block ads with just a few clicks.

All you have to do is install the Ad Blocker for the Social extension on your Chrome browser.
