Do the 49ers have a game today

Are we seeing a potential Super Bowl preview at Levi's Stadium on Sunday? It may not be the most likely matchup, but the way the 49ers and Dolphins have played of late at least makes a February reunion a possibility.

The Dolphins (8-3) have yet to lose when Tua Tagovailoa plays a full game this season, and they find themselves leading the Bills by a tiebreaker atop of the AFC East with six games remaining.

Miami runs into a juggernaut in Week 13. The 49ers are still only 7-4, but they're working on a streak of four consecutive second half defensive shutouts. San Francisco is finally healthy and reaching its full potential behind an excellent defensive scheme along with dynamic offensive weapons.

The 49ers took their defensive dominance a step further in Week 12 and blanked the Saints entirely.

It would be a surprise, to say the least, if the streak reached five games. Tagovailoa and go-to weapons Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have made life difficult for defenses all season and have a chance to give the 49ers' secondary more of a challenge than anything it's seen this season.

On the other hand, the Dolphins have beaten up on the Bears, Browns, and Texans in their last three games. Whether they're ready to go on the road and handle business against a Super Bowl hopeful with a tremendous defense is an unanswered question.

49ers vs. Dolphins start time

  • Date: Sunday, Dec. 4
  • Time: 4:05 p.m. ET (1:05 p.m. local time)

49ers vs. Dolphins from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara is set to start at 4:05 p.m. ET (1:05 p.m. local time) on Sunday, Dec. 4.

The San Francisco 49ers will turn to third-string quarterback Brock Purdy to lead their offense as they host Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Purdy, who was taken out of Iowa State with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, stepped in last week against the Miami Dolphins when Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot in the first drive of the game. With Trey Lance also sidelined with a season-ending ankle injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan went to the 22-year-old who pulled off an upset 33-17 win.

He’ll now square off against the seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady in his first start.

Luckily for Purdy, his offense has a distinct advantage running the ball. Don’t be surprised if the 49ers, led by newly acquired running back Christian McCaffrey, opt to keep the ball on the ground.

The Buccaneers are the worst rushing team in the league, averaging 73 yards per game. That doesn’t bode well against a 49ers defense that leads the league in rushing defense, allowing just over 75 yards per game.

Both teams narrowly lead their respective divisions and are hanging on to the automatic spot in the NFL playoffs with five weeks remaining in the regular season.
