Explore the key D-Day spots in Normandy on our Omaha Beach half-day tour from Bayeux. You’ll walk directly on the sands of Omaha Beach, peer over the cliffs at the Pointe du Hoc, see massive guns and bomb craters, and explore inside of German bunkers.

Then you’ll taste some local cider and, of course, pay your respects to those who sacrificed everything when you visit the American Cemetery where thousands of white marble tombstones stand in rows.

Whether you’re a military history buff or someone who is just curious about D-Day, our guide will share the day’s events so you can better appreciate the remarkable acts of bravery and selfless sacrifice which took place during the Battle for Normandy.

On this small group half-day tour there will never be more than 8 participants. So you can be sure that your guide will be able to share the important events of D-Day with you in a personal and engaging way. It’s important to us that you enjoy the tour and come away with memories to share that will last you a lifetime.

German bunkers

German Bunkers on the Atlantic Wall

Start your adventure in the heart of Bayeux in Normandy, at the Place de Quebec, where you’ll meet your guide. Together you’ll retrace the amazing events of D-Day along the coast of Normandy. You’ll ride in comfort in our brand new vans with large leather seats, fresh A/C, and wide clear windows.

The first stop on this tour will be at the Longues-Sur-Mer German Battery. Part of the “Atlantic Wall '' this Battery was built by the Germans as one of their many defenses against an invasion from the sea. The huge 150mm guns at this Battery fired on both Omaha and Gold sectors on D-Day.

With your guide you’ll go inside the German command bunker and learn about the first sighting of Allied ships on the sea. In order to help you understand the extreme fortifications the Allied troops had to fight against when they landed on D-Day, you’ll explore the other bunkers on the site where you will be able to see and touch the massive guns that still point towards England.

Omaha Beach

Omaha Beach and the Pointe du Hoc

Then you’ll drive down to Omaha Beach where almost 2,500 men lost their lives on D-Day as they faced the most difficult circumstances of the Allied landing. You’ll learn about the terrible sacrifice of the youngest soldiers and why they were chosen to fight on “Bloody Omaha'' while older, more experienced soldiers were sent to other landing sites.

You’ll see the natural obstacles they faced and learn that despite being pinned down by heavy gun fire, these brave young men fought against the sea, the cliffs, and the odds of survival to “get the job done”. When you stand on the same sands as they did you will understand them so much more.

After Omaha Beach you’ll learn the impressive history of what happened at the Pointe du Hoc. Walking between the huge bomb craters, that are several yards deep, you’ll make your way to the very edge of the 100ft tall cliff. Peering over the edge you’ll learn how the Army Rangers accomplished the seemingly impossible task of scaling the cliffs by hand.

American Cemetery

The American Cemetery

Leaving the Pointe du Hoc behind you’ll enjoy a short break at a family owned Cider farm. There you’ll do a cider tasting of the traditional Normandy hard cider which are made from a large variety of local apples. If you prefer not to drink alcohol then you can enjoy a tasty apple juice instead.

The final stop on this tour is the American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. Here the guide will share several stories of outstanding heroism and courage and introduce you to the graves of the men who lived these stories. You’ll be able to pay your respects to the Niland brothers who inspired the movie “Saving Private Ryan”, to Theodore Roosevelt Jr, a Medal of Honor recipient, and several other heroes that deserve to be remembered and visited.

The drive back to Bayeux will take between 30 and 45 minutes and you will be dropped at the Place de Quebec. The same place where you started your adventure earlier in the day. There you will say goodbye to your guide and thank them for the memories.
