Can you use cerave lotion on a tattoo

tattoo aftercare

Your tattoo will be wrapped to keep it protected before you leave the shop. If you were given a regular wrap, read the “Regular aftercare” section. If you were given Saniderm, read the “Saniderm” section.

The short version: Moisturize a couple times a day with a very thin layer of lotion (no petroleum products). It will be itchy, flaky, scabby - Do not pick or scratch. No direct sun exposure and no hot tubs/swimming/baths for 3-4 weeks. Wait at least 4-6 weeks before getting a touchup or second session.

If you have any questions at all about healing or aftercare, please ask!

TATTOO AFTERCARE SUGGESTIONS

1. After getting tattooed, leave wrap on for no more than 12 hours.

2. Only remove wrap once you are ready to give it a thorough wash. Use non-scented soap and warm water.

4. Let the tattoo air dry or pat with clean paper towel.

5. Apply a thin layer of light, fragrance-free, dye-free lotion and massage into tattoo for the first several days.

HELPFUL TIPS:

-Aftercare supplies: Fragrance and dye free lotion (Aveeno, Cetaphil, CeraVe,) mild soap, fresh roll of paper towels, plastic wrap (Saran Wrap.)

-Drink plenty of water while healing.

-Keep your new tattoo away from: sunlight, friction, dirty clothing, dirty people, watchbands, hot tubs, pools and lakes.

-Never pick or peel; tattoo scabs will fall off naturally.

-Use high SPF sunblock to protect your tattoo after it has healed. Always

Hi

Wait until it has scabbed or peeled before applying that stuff – it has a high alcohol content that will dry out the skin and could pull ink.

Sounds crazy I know as it is a moisturiser but I am talking about the top layer not what is absorbed.

Try using it after 5-7 days should be fine.

Take Care
Matthew

The only difference between a person with tattoos, and a person without is this. The person with tattoos does not care if you do not have any.

My husband is heavily tattooed. For aftercare of his tattoos he uses Lubriderm hand cream, the unscented kind. He doesn’t use Tattoo Goo or Polysporn or anything else, just Lubriderm. He has never had a problem with any of his tattoos. He’s been using it for several years now.

Any nappy rash cream is usually the best thing to use for tattoos – I never really use normal moisteriser on any of mine and always give them a good helping of sunscreen before going out. I didn’t do it with my first one and the discolouration is really noticable compared to the rest that I have looked after

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR NEW TATTOO:

    DAY ONE - DAY THREE

    1. Your artist will apply a flexible self-adhesive film to your tattoo. The film is water-resistant and prevents bacteria from entering the area. (You may shower with this on, but please don’t go in the ocean or pool for about two weeks)!

    2. Remove the cover after 1-3 DAYS, or as advised by your artist. (If you have sensitive skin and notice the area around the film becoming red, remove it and go to Step 3).

    3. Gently wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and water and air dry.

    4. Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare ointment to the tattoo and DO NOT re-cover. SKYE INK has an Organic & All Natural Tattoo Oil available for purchase in-store (made by us!), that can be used at any time during the healing process. Our Tattoo Oil is a natural sun protectant and the only product you need to heal your new ink!

    5. You can apply more oil throughout the day as needed, if your tattoo looks too dry, put a little more! You won’t hurt it, but remember you only need a little bit!

    WEEK ONE

    1. During the first week with your new tattoo, wash the tattoo twice a day and apply your aftercare ointment.

    WEEK TWO + BEYOND

    1. At this point, you should continue to keep the tattoo clean, as it will still be healing.

    2. Continue using your Tattoo Oil, as your tattoo will still be dry.

    3. You should expect there to be some peeling, scabbing, and itching, DO NOT SCRATCH IT, PICK IT, OR PEEL IT! Apply some oil and leave it be.

    THINGS TO NOTE

    • Avoid swimming and direct sun for about two weeks.

    • If you think your tattoo is not healing properly or have any concerns, please tell us so we can advise you on how to take proper care of it.

    • Once your tattoo is fully healed, you can keep using our Tattoo Oil to protect the vibrancy of your new ink against UV rays!

Can I use moisturizing lotion on tattoo?

You should moisturize your clean tattoo 3 – 6 times per day, for roughly two weeks (though proper skincare is always important, and most tattoo enthusiasts moisturize their tattoos daily for life!). A white cream lotion or moisturizer, preferably unscented, should be used!
