Lawmaking and the Prez The president either signs the bill to approve it or rejects the bill with a veto and sends it back to Congress. Barack Obama is the current president of the United States. He was elected in November 2008 and took office on January 20, 2009.

What executive duties are listed in Section 3?

It is the duty of the President to make recommendations to Congress, on behalf of the public, as to what laws should be passed. In the event of an emergency, the President can call Congress into session. The President also must receive and meet with foreign dignitaries and ambassadors.

How does the President execute laws?

The President has the power either to sign legislation into law or to veto bills enacted by Congress, although Congress may override a veto with a two-thirds vote of both houses.
