Alameda health system highland hospital internal medicine residency

To the point, Alameda Health in Oakland California is at the top of my residency programs. Dream due to location (I’m from Oakland Ca), the residents are unionized, and overall it looks like a great program!

So why this post? I’ve tried to find information about this program (whether it’s toxic or not) and everything on this program is 5 years or older. Anyone that is currently there, or recently left know anything about this program? Good, bad, any and all info would be greatly appreciated!! If you prefer to message me feel free to do so. Thank you all for your time in advance!! 🙏🙏

P.S. This is in regards to their Internal Medicine Program

Dr. Sadi Fontaine established the OMS Training Program in 1926. At that time, the training consisted of a one-year internship. In 1967, the program expanded to 48 months.

Today, this four-year program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation and accepts three residents each year. The Alameda County Medical Center Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is under the direction of the University of the Pacific.

Residency education is provided at four campuses: Alameda Health System (AHS), Kaiser Permanente Oakland (KP), Children’s Hospital Oakland (CHO), UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, and the University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP).

Training is rigorous and includes extensive experience in:

  • Sedation and general anesthesia
  • Dentoalveolar surgery
  • Complex maxillofacial trauma
  • Facial reconstructive surgery
  • Orthognathic maxillofacial surgery
  • Oral pathology
  • Preprosthetic surgery Implant reconstruction
  • Facial cosmetic surgery
  • Temporomandibular joint surgery
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Pediatric maxillofacial surgery

The didactic curriculum includes extensive education in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including:

  • Head and neck anatomy
  • Physical diagnosis
  • Implantology
  • Oral pathology
  • Pharmacology and medicine
  • Anesthesiology

Weekly evening conferences featuring guest lecturers are held regularly. Rotations to affiliated institutions are included in the four-year training curriculum and provide residents with extensive experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
