9 mo ago Just wondering what everyone has paid to have their oil filter housing replaced on the 3.6 Pentastar say in the past 6 months. He is away in Virginia and the shop wants $950 with a military discount. It's actually a 2015 200s but the same motor and parts. Joined

I’ve swapped the oil cooler housing and oil pump in the last month. I had to wait months for the national back order on the oil coolers to even get one. I think I paid around 250 for the part. The job isn’t all that difficult if you are an ok wrench. Maybe check a video out on the process. Joined

I'd also request they use the new Dorman aluminum housing when they're replacing. Joined Jan 16, 2010 · 1,667 Posts
I've heard 1400.00 quoted in my area but that was a dealership. I would think if it's under 1K and someone reputable that is about right. Joined May 5, 2012 · 105,900 Posts
$950, sounds in the ballpark. Joined Dec 6, 2015 · 809 Posts

sounds like the ballpark price for something that Jeep should have fixed before selling these things with a known problem year after year. Joined Sep 20, 2021 · 64 Posts
Just shy of $800, Ole' Girl was leaking from everywhere...... Luckily dealership I bought it from included a free lifetime powertrain warranty and they are covering the timing cover and gasket. Warranty has been a blessing, especially after they covered the "pentastar tick" repair as well. I was going to tackle the PCV and Cam position sensor
myself, but second guessed it when I found out where that PCV was. EDIT, in the hopes that I'll only have to do this once, I did insist that they replace with Dorman product made from metal, not plastic.

It's hard to know if you are being taken or treated fairly when you are in an unfamiliar place. By the rate of failure on these coolers I wouldn't be surprised to see a class action lawsuit one day.

The dealership used a non-OEM part? Warranty is underwritten by a 3rd party (Jeep purchased pre-owned from a Honda dealership, warranty company is Total Warranty Services, Lifetime Warranty),
only says I have to take it to "ASE certified" repair shop. I have been taking it to a Christian Brothers very close to my house. Not sure why I would put an OEM part back on when OEM part is what failed. no price difference between the two. Christian Brothers warranty on part/repairs is 3yr/36k miles, whichever comes last. Jeep has 106k (no warranty from mopar) on it and after talking to Jeep Cares on this specific issue with the cooler, they say the only "campaign" that covers my vin is for
Clock Spring, no coverage on oil cooler. Joined Apr 22, 2015 · 4,173 Posts

When you mentioned dealership you bought from I assumed you took it there for the repair. Correct, millions of oil coolers
that haven't failed yet. as for stories, there are a bunch on this specific part on this forum/other mopar forums/google. How does the saying go? Fooled me once, shame on you? I'll take my chances with aftermarket in this particular situation/condition. The decision to replace with aftermarket vs. OEM should lie with the owner of the vehicle/wallet. is higher than normal. Joined Apr 22, 2015 · 4,173 Posts

I didn’t have a choice as the dealer did mine under the Mopar Lifetime warranty. Right, and in that situation it makes sense, If Mopar wants to continue to pay to replace their own crappy parts, no one will argue with them. How much does it cost to replace oil filter housing?Running your engine with a leaking oil filter can result in extensive engine damage, so it's important to have your oil filter housing replaced as soon as possible when it is damaged. The average cost to replace the oil filter housing is $150 to $700 depending on the make and model of your vehicle.
How long does it take to fix oil filter housing?Replacing an oil filter housing gasket could take a professional mechanic not more than 2 hours to fulfill. But for a beginner, it should take about 4 to 6 hours.
How much does an oil filter housing gasket cost?If you are just getting gasket replacement, the average cost is around $500 – $1,000 at a dealership including labor cost. If you do it by yourself, it should be under $150.
Why is my oil filter housing leaking? If the oil filter is installed too loosely, it can vibrate loose and allow oil to leak out. If it's installed too tightly, the gasket could be damaged, leading to a leak. Leaks can also occur during an oil change if the gasket from the old filter sticks to the housing.
