It's at the driver side rear of the intake manifold. See the little tower sticking up in the big at the valley pan? Thats the oil pressure sending unit right there. They don't take much time to change, the problem is that the oil pressure sending unit is an odd shape. I have a special socket that fits over it and it comes right out with the
special socket. Not sure how you'd do it without the socket. 79.6 KB Views: 1,721

Is there anywhere on the web that shows step by step instructions on how to first, remove the sending unit and then clean the sending unit? After looking at Jay4Speed's pic, it looks like i have to take off the "SS" plastic engine cover and then the intake IOT reach the sending unit...?

anyone "cleaning" them, usually replace them. As Jay said, you need a special socket to remove/replace them. It's fairly easy to do, just climb in and start looking around, you will see how to do it. Joined Dec 31, 2011 · 36 Posts
Bummer, but it's still cheaper to replace it myself (vice cleaning it) than to have it done at the shop. well....I guess I'll just dive head first in then; thanks for responding. Joined Dec 31, 2011 · 36 Posts
Problem solved: End result is that I don't have to see the "check engine / low oil pressure" light on anymore! Joined Nov 22, 2010 · 9,572 Posts
Glad you got it man. What part of NC are you from? Joined Dec 31, 2011 · 36 Posts Joined Nov 16, 2010 · 362 Posts

right out with the special socket. Not sure how you'd do it without the socket. With the right socket is this something a novice mechanic (that is giving me more credit than I deserve) would be able to do? Is there anything else that should or is required to be done in conjunction with this? Joined Jul 6, 2007 · 1,269 Posts
Could this be why my oil pressure gauge is pegged all the time? Joined Nov 16, 2010 · 362 Posts
Could this be why my oil pressure gauge is pegged all the time? Mine is dead and check gauge light came on. Where is a oil pressure sensor located? The oil pressure sensor is typically located near the bottom or side of an engine, between the oil filter and the oil pan.
Can I drive with a faulty oil pressure sensor? You should not take this situation lightly, as it is an indication that your engine has lost normal oil pressure. If you see this light on, we highly suggest that you stop driving your vehicle immediately and turn off your engine. Driving with this light on your dash can cause severe, irreversible engine damage.
How do you know if your oil pressure sensor is going out? Thus, a sporadically blinking oil light is probably the clearest sign that the sensor itself is on its way out. Note that some older cars might not have a dedicated low oil pressure light, and this problem might pop up as a check engine light in those cases.
