2005 chevy silverado 2500hd cabin air filter replacement

Some models of the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are equipped with a cabin air filter. Starting in 2005, all 2500HDs have a redesigned air conditioning system that no longer uses a cabin filter. The procedure for replacing the filter is the same for all previous models. The cabin filter keeps dust and pollen from entering the interior of the vehicle by trapping them within the ventilation system. Chevrolet recommends replacing the filter once a year or every 10,000 miles, under normal driving conditions. The cabin filter on the 2500HD is made up of two separate filters that should be changed together.

Step 1

Remove the three screws on the black plastic access panel on the passenger side of the dash.

Step 2

Lift the access cover off of the dash.

Step 3

Remove the two screws on the filter housing cover.

Step 4

Remove the filter housing cover.

Step 5

Pull the exposed filter straight out of the housing to remove it.

Step 6

Slide the second filter down and pull it out of the housing.

Step 7

Insert the first new filter into the housing. Slide the filter up to allow room for the second filter.

Step 8

Insert the second new filter into the filter housing.

Step 9

Replace the filter housing cover. Replace the two screws that hold the cover in place.

Step 10

Reposition the black plastic access panel. Replace the three screws that hold the panel in position.

The 2005 Chevy Silverado has a cabin air filter that is located in the truck on the passenger side behind the glove box. You will need to remove the glove compartment completely and then You can access the plastic panel that covers the filter. I recommend that You check Your filter at least every 6 months to make sure that it is free from excessive debris or mold. The cabin air filter is there to help keep dust and allergens out of the cabin of Your truck and may get worn out at some point and need to be replaced. The OEM filter is made out of paper, but there are upgraded charcoal and carbon filters on the market that can give You better air quality.

So you can't change an air filter in a 2005 silverado?

The typical access door does not exist on a 2005 Chevy Silverado. It's a sealed mold where it should go.

I read in another forum that it was an option in 2005. Some have it some do not. Remove the bottom plastic shroud under the glove box.If it has one the cover is held in place with one bolt and then swings down. YouTube for a visual.
