moparpartsamerica.com wants $644, which i'm sure is better than the dealer... but that's still insane!

the ussual places i would look (ebay, rockauto, napa) only have the electric fan

thanks!

Back when I was into bimmers .. everyone talked about deleting the clutch fan .. .why don't you just delete the clutch fan completely and get some 12v fans? it'd free up some horsepower, and it'd be a lot cheaper.

And as those fans age, the plastic gets brittle, and if the fan breaks (can happen) at a high enough RPM, the shards will propel themselves into your hood from the inside of the engine compartment, causing dents and paint chipping ontop of your hood.

I think I know what I'm talking about .. or I may be way off in which case disregard my post, haha.

well.... it's not a clutch fan, it's a hydraulic fan operated by the power steering pump with an electronicly actuated solenoid that controls speed by limiting fluid flow.

it's an upgrade from the electric fan found on 4.7L for 01 and up. it pushes more air than the electric fan did and still has less parasitic draw than a traditional viscous coupler attached fan... neat idea actually, but spensive, apparently due to it's one-of-a-kindness i guess

Wait, do all the HO's have this crazy fan, or am I reading that you swapped it in?

All 01-04 WJ's with the 4.7L V8 regular and high output engines have the hydraulic cooling fan.

My CJD certified technician says it can't be by-passed with electric fan/fans unit. The factory unit is powered by the power steering pump. I did not ask why after he said it can't be by-passed with an electrical unit.

Make it Mopar Parts.com $543.00. Rock Auto doesn't show it. Everyone else I looked at had it for $623.00 up to $750.00.
Good luck.

I was afraid that I stripped the fitting that the pressure line attaches to when I replaced the hose on my wife's WJ. So I made a couple calls trying to track one down and here is what I found:

Local Dealer#1 - $800
Local Dealer#2- $750
Local Salvage Yard- $150

Now, I can't confirm that this is the correct part, but I did ask the person of the phone if this was the hydraulic fan assembly that includes the fan blade and shroud, and according to the description they read me, it sounded correct. They informed me that it was coming from out of state, but they could have it within a few days. Here is their website:

That cooling fan assembly is on national backorder - has been for months. The part number has changed and the list price is nearly $1000.00. You also need a jumper wiring harness kit to accommodate the new fan. That's about $60 if I recall correctly. If you need one in a hurry, the salvage yard is the way to go.

You're not the first that has needed a replacement, another great idea from Chrysler. After thinking about this statement, I must say that the hydraulic fan is a great idea, its just that the Chrysler products seem to fail.

May I ask what went wrong with the original unit?

Hey Guys,

I have an extra 4.7HO hydraulic fan tha I purchased a while back after thinking I ruined my original. I fixed the problem without using the new unit. If anyone needs one of these, I would be happy to work out a deal...

FYI.

Thanks,

Bryan

remove the selonoid and place a small washer (1mm thick) in the bottom and replace. This will keep the fan engaged all the time and and save you $700 +.

01 Grnd C 4.7 Cooling Fan Replacement

I called Flex-a-Lite radiator and accessories manufactuer. They said that i could use their electric model 180 as a replacement. I just replaced the heads on this beast so i'm up for the radiator fan replacement. im just a little puzzled on how to modify the 3 power steering lines that go to the fan motor. put them in a loop? Which line is in, out?

Any body?

You need to get a new power steering pump and a new steering line. Also you will have a check engine light after remove the hydraulic fan, which will cause or not cause you to fail inspections depending on where you live.

Power steering pump & fan pump

I think i'm going to try to leave the fan pump attached, if there is room with the new electric fan?
What kind of power steering pump?
I've been reading about relays going bad.
Maybe my pump is failing?
I can jump start the fan with my hand
