really important? Joined Dec 27, 2006 · 25,301 Posts
Mostly in the engine and transmission. Headstuds rod bolts etc where tightness matters for clearances and seals. Axle nuts technically matter too. But I only torque when it counts because technically all bolts on any car have their own torque specs. Even like hood bolts and ground bolts... Like they matter

Glad I'm not the only one, I don't torque most things on a car, unless it's a moving part or an engine part. Joined May 21, 2009 · 3 Posts
Discussion Starter · #8 · Jul 11, 2009 in reality torque specs is take the bolt to its high point of yeald, in other terms stretching the bolt out close to its stretch point but not to its break point, to hold watever is being held better and stronger.

in reality torque specs is take the bolt to its high point of yeald, in other terms stretching the bolt out close to its stretch point but not to its break point, to hold watever is being held better and stronger. That depends on the type of bolt. You're describing bolts like head studs, which is exactly
why you shouldn't reuse them. If you've ever stress-tested metal, you'd see why. It's just not a good idea, it really does weaken the metal noticeably. The service manual even has torque specs for the strut mount nuts, and those aren't the same thing. Joined Dec 26, 2008 · 602 Posts
haha, I haven't torqued anything down on my suspension at all and I've changed it at least 6 times! I don't even torque my lugs. Torquing is for pussies! Tight enough FTW! lawl |
