Hi Guys
I have a Forester GT manual 01 code on box is TY755VB2AA

Ratios are
1st 3.454
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.366
4th 0.972
5th 0.738

final drive ratio is 4.44 . My question is can I put a 00 forester transmission from the year earlier obviously with mine being an 01 in to my 01 . The final gear ratio is the same at 4.44 but only difference is ratio on first , second , third are slightly different on 00 forester box .
4th and 5th are the same ratio with everything else a match . Is this suitable to use being that the final drive ratio is the same with matching ring gear teeth and pinions etc ??
Many thanks

The two gearboxes should both be Phase2 type, with 8 Bolt connection and Phase2 centre differential.
They should both use the same 35047AC030 shifter linkage joint.
If the MY-00 transmission is not from a Turbo (as yours is) it may be a weaker transmission with less robust internal bearings (you have not indicated the model fo the donor MY-00 transmision)

That said, if it is an NA gearbox it will have a low range (given you are in OZ)
If it is a low-range equipped NA gearbox then maybe you should refrain from using low-range as the combination of the Turbo powerplant and the torque multiplication of the low-range could accelerate the demise of the replacement gearbox.
For your consideration.

Question, as long as the final ratio matches, the transmission will fit?
I got a buddy that’s willing to give me his transmission from a 04 forester XT, but I seen the final ratio is 4.44, compared to mine which is 4.11 (I own a 01 forester L)

What kind of transmission does a 2001 Subaru Forester have?

There are two all-wheel-drive models, the Forester L and sporty Forester S. Both use the efficient 2.5-liter sohc 4-cylinder boxer engine producing a healthy 165 horsepower, and come with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

    Are Subaru manual transmissions reliable?

A new study by Consumer Reports (by subscription) rates the best cars in reliability with a manual shifter, and Subaru scores three of its models. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek wins the best SUV and is the only compact SUV to make the reliable and recommend cars list.

Does Subaru make a manual transmission Forester?

Unfortunately, the Subaru Forester Sport doesn't have a manual transmission. Introduced in 2019, the vehicle has since come standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission or CVT.

What was the last year Subaru Forester had a manual transmission?

You couldn't get a manual transmission in the compact Forester SUV after the 2018 model year and in the Outback wagon after 2015. The Japanese automaker did it for two reasons.
