01-23-2009Just recently i had problems with my 1997 grand prix going into what i believe is limp mode. A friend told me that its probably my speed sensor and im trying to figure out where they are located. Also i was wondering if the abs/tire pressure/ trac control sensor located on the front wheels act as a speed sensor also??

01-23-2009The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located on the differential cover. Passenger side of the car, right where the passenger side axle connects to the transmission.
The ABS sensors are only used for the ABS and traction control systems. They don't measure the vehicle's speed. Instead they monitor individual wheel speeds so the system can compare them to each other.

01-24-2009Hey thank you for the quick reply, i hope to get the scanner hooked up to my car soon to verify the problem. Would the abs sensor lead to my car going into limp mode like that. Because i have also had my abs/trac control/low tire pressure lights come on and i know its because of the sensor on the tire, just havent gotten around to fixing that yet...........
